ITI Life Sciences appoints Eleanor Mitchell as Managing Director

26 Jun 2007 - ITI Life Sciences announced the appointment of Dr Eleanor Mitchell as Managing Director as part of the wider reorganisation of ITI Scotland, its parent group.

Over the past 18 months, Dr Mitchell, in her former role of Acting CEO of ITI Life Sciences, has overseen the progression of the organisation's R&D programmes, to which more than �50 million has been committed. These R&D programmes are focused on generating innovative technologies aimed at enhancing the pharmaceutical drug development process (text mining and transgenic screening & safety models) and for the improved management of the treatment of cardiovascular disease (cardiac biomarkers). To date, five commercial licensing deals have been signed based on the technologies developed within these programmes and one product has been launched: SmartCheck, a handheld medical device that monitors blood clotting and improves treatment of heart disease.

Most recently, Dr Mitchell led the initiation of ITI Life Sciences' �9.5 million stem cell R&D programme, which involves the Universities of Glasgow and Dundee, and the biotech company Cellartis.

Dr Mitchell has experience in strategic, support and operational roles developed at a number of life science companies. She joined ITI Life Sciences in January 2004 in the role of Director of Programme Management; immediately prior to this she was Director of Operations at Millennium Pharmaceuticals R&D Ltd in Cambridge UK. She has also worked as Head of Research Operations at the contract drug discovery provider Cambridge Discovery Chemistry/Combinatorial and spent 11 years in customer support and marketing at three life science software companies in Europe and the USA - Oxford Molecular, Biosym Technologies and the Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre.

A graduate in Developmental Biology from the University of Aberdeen, Dr Mitchell received her MSc and PhD in Chemical Information Science from Sheffield University.
