Oxford Gene Technology grants microarray license to Japanese life science companies

Oxford Gene Technology (OGT) announced the conclusion of a series of Japanese licensing agreements giving Bio Matrix Research Inc. and Filgen Inc. access to OGT's "Southern array patents", the fundamental patents covering the manufacture and marketing of oligonucleotide microarrays.
The granted microarray license will enable Bio Matrix Research Inc., a bio venture company launched by Tokyo University of Science, to develop and commercialise unique products and to manufacture and market microarrays in Japan.
Filgen Inc., a biochip and nanofilm technologies company is licensed to conduct a microarray service, using licensed microarrays, in Japan.
Dr Michael Bennett, Vice President Licensing Asia, at OGT said: "These two licenses continue the rapid progress of OGT's Japanese licensing programme, where we have granted licenses to both large multinational companies and small start up organisations. These licenses serve to illustrate the broad range of microarray patent rights that OGT offers, and that OGT works to ensure that any organisation can obtain access to the Southern patents, regardless of its size."
These licenses will remain valid for the patents' lifetime. Financial details were not disclosed.
