Cells of the zona fasciculata sit directly beneath the zona glomerulosa and are organized in bundles (or fascicles).

The zona chiefly produces glucocorticoids (eg, cortisol) and a small amount of weak androgens (eg, dehydroepiandrosterone).

Cells of the zona fasciculata, the middle zone of the adrenal cortex, sits directly beneath the zona glomerulosa and are organized in bundles (or fascicles). The zona fasciculata chiefly produces glucocorticoids (mainly cortisol), which regulates the metabolism of glucose, especially in times of stress, as well as a small amount of weak androgens (eg, dehydroepiandrosterone).
