Starch is often used in chemistry as an indicator for redox titrations where iodine is present. This is because starch forms a very dark blue-black complex with iodine. The solution is colourless when Iodide (I-) is present. However the reverse is also true. When Testing for starch in a solution you can use iodine as an indicator to help determine your concentration.
