Let us design the ideal fermenter for your process

It's culture conditions and cost efficiency which matter most in biorector design

by Vogelbusch Biocommodities GmbH

The IP-8 self priming aeration system is easy in operation and guarantees high oxygen utilization, for instance in vinegar fermentation.

The highly energy efficient EB-4 Vogelbusch aeration system distributes the air through the open rear side of the agitator blades – typically applied in yeast production.

In bubble column (air-lift) fermenters the air is dispersed from nozzles at the bioreactor bottom – a static construction that is easy to clean, used for example in citric acid production.

The ideal fermenter maintains optimal conditions for the fermentation substrate, the microorganisms, and thus a quality end product. From a financial point of view saving energy and producing cost-effectively are also highly important.

In its many years of experience with microbial production techniques VOGELBUSCH is well acquainted with the differing requirements of designing bioreactors. To efficiently run interference-free fermentations over a longer period, VOGELBUSCH, has specific aeration systems, experience in selecting the appropriate components, and proven know-how.

Diverse solutions
A multitude of process and apparatus solutions are available for your specific applications, including aerobic and anaerobic, sterile and non-sterile, batch and continuous, as well as single fermenter and fermenter cascade solutions.

VOGELBUSCH uses static aerators and dynamic systems with agitators which were developed by us for our own applications. The ideal aeration system is selected on the basis of:

  • Aeration rates
VOGELBUSCH aerators deliver oxygen transfer rates (OTR) of 1 to 20 kg/m³h and more, depending on the product yield.
  • Energy consumption
The most efficient systems use only 0.25 kWh per kg of oxygen. Energy-saving technology reduces running costs.

From lab to production scale
Specialised in upscaling biotechnological processes for the client, VOGELBUSCH executes projects on the basis of customers’ lab or pilot plant results.

On the basis of individual process parameters (oxygen and nutrient supply, temperature, pH value, etc.), taking into account mechanical influences on the biomass, the appropriate fermentation system is selected.

VOGELBUSCH also provides technical solutions for further processing the fermentation products. In addition to auxilliary systems we can provide specific concepts for any associated processes.

For the construction of facilities, VOGELBUSCH

  • establishes detailed specifications of processing equipment and auxilliary facilities, and can provide operating and utility requirements
  • delivers key equipment or turnkey
  • monitors assembly and implementation
  • trains personnel
