DSM Sinochem Pharmaceuticals opens new 6-APA intermediate plant in China

In the presence of the governor of Jilin province, Mr. Wang Rulin, the opening ceremony of DSM Sinochem Pharmaceuticals’ newest intermediate plant was celebrated in YuShu, China. The new plant will produce the beta-lactam intermediate 6-APA (6- Aminopenicillanic Acid) for global markets. 6-APA is the key intermediate for the production of SSPs (Semi-Synthetic Penicillins), which are used worldwide to combat infectious disease.

The construction of the plant started in Q2 of 2010 and was declared mechanical complete in Q1 of 2012. The application of world class enzymatic technology, latest insights in design and state of the art environmental technologies in this plant will boost the sustainable development of anti-infectives in the pharmaceutical industry. The plant is located in Changchun Wukeshu Economic Zone in China’s Jilin Province.

Mr. Pan Zhengyi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of DSM Sinochem Pharmaceuticals and Vice President of Sinochem commented: “We are very happy to see the successful start of this plant, which is a further proof of the successful partnership of Sinochem and DSM and the long-term strong support from local governments.
