BIOTECHNICA 2010 with new focus topics
21-09-2010: BIOTECHNICA 2010 is open for business in Hannover from 5 to 7 October, with new focus topics and more wide-ranging coverage. Europe’s leading biotech and life sciences event focuses on biotech applications in the fields of medicine, pharmaceuticals, food, agriculture, manufacturing industry and environmental protection, as well as laboratory equipment, bio-engineering and services. The trade fair will be complemented by an extensive conference program involving more than 500 international speakers from science, industry and politics.
New platform for regenerative medicine and molecular diagnostics
A high point of the show is the 5th World Congress for Preventive and Regenerative Medicine (WCPRM), which is being staged at BIOTECHNICA for the first time in 2010. More than 500 scientists and clinical experts from all over the world will be discussing new possibilities for treating hitherto incurable or intractable diseases using regenerative therapies. The topics covered range from tissue engineering and the use of regenerative medicine in hospitals to anti-ageing medicine and stem cell research. On a related theme the international congress “bone-tec” looks at the regeneration of bone, cartilage, tendons and ligaments using techniques developed by biotechnology. A further premiere will be a conference and special exhibition entitled “Molecular Diagnostics Europe”, organized by BIOTECHNICA in partnership with the Cambridge Healthtech Institute (CHI) in America. The event will focus on new methods in molecular diagnostics, ranging from the science lab to clinical application, notably in the study and treatment of cancer and infectious diseases.
The latest IT tools for bio-research and techniques for protein expression
The previous focus topic “BIO-IT“ gets extended coverage this year with a packed lecture program and a dedicated exhibition on applied methods in bio-informatics. This year's “Bio.IT World Europe” will be divided into four tracks, covering IT Infrastructure and Informatics, Next Generation Sequencing Data Management, Collaboration Software as well as Data Integration and Knowledge Management. The expression and purification of proteins are a key prerequisite for the development of therapeutic antibodies for the treatment of cancer or immune-related disorders. The “PEGS Europe – Protein & Antibody Engineering Summit” conference and exhibition affords an overview of the latest findings, new techniques and strategies for the expression and purification of proteins and the development of antibodies.
Biotechnological Innovation in Food
One of the program highlights due to make its debut at the upcoming trade show is the symposium “Biotechnological Innovation in Food”, which will be devoted to current developments and recent legislation affecting food production and foodstuffs. Lectures on molecular food analysis will complement the information on food safety.
Easy access to new business contacts
The “BIOTECHNICA Partnering” event, organized in conjunction with the leading global partnering specialist EBD Group, brings together potential joint-venture partners form various sections of the life science industry and gets them talking to each other immediately. Participants have the chance to get to know their prospective partners in a series of 30-minute one-to-one meetings, where the subjects up for discussion include research, development, technology transfer, financing and strategic alliances. At the same time they can present their company, products and services and outline their ideas. When the allotted time is up, participants move on a short distance to their next appointment. Using the online platform “partneringONE” developed by EBD, participants can quickly and easily identify likely contacts and arrange appointments in the run-up to BIOTECHNICA.
Where ideas and investors come together
In addition, start-up companies have an opportunity to make their pitch to potential investors and learn about financing trends at the second “Bio@Venture Conference”. The “Biotechnology Project Forum” is aimed at promoting technology transfer between the scientific community and industry. Here more than 120 scientists will be telling visitors about their research programs funded by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF). The “Innovation Forum“ incorporated into the exhibition is aimed particularly at young entrepreneurs, and gives them an opportunity to present themselves and their products to a national and international audience.
New career opportunities in the life sciences
The “jobvector” careers platform offers a wealth of information about career opportunities in the life sciences, and will be of interest to students, Ph.D candidates, career entrants and industry experts alike. Firms with suitable vacancies will be conducting job interviews at the show.
