The device is currently indicated only for people who have undergone gastric bypass (GBP) surgery, and yet have begun gaining weight after having initially lost weight. The device is a band that restricts the stomach by being fastened inside the stomach, using blue plastic staples. The procedure to insert the device is considered non-invasive, as no cutting of any tissue is required.
