HSA was established on 1 April 2001 as a Statutory Board under the Ministry of Health, Singapore. Through its three professional groups: Health Products Regulation Group, Blood Services Group, and Applied Sciences Group, it serves as the national regulator for health products and ensures that they are wisely regulated; it operates the national blood bank and secures the nation’s blood supply; and it applies scientific, forensic and analytical expertise to serve the administration of justice. In 2008, HSA was appointed a "Designated Institute" for Chemical Metrology in the areas of food, pharmaceutical, clinical healthcare and forensics by the NMC. A Chemical Metrology Division was set up in August 2008 under the Applied Sciences Group. A major task for this Division is to work with NMC to establish the national infrastructure for Metrology in Chemistry. Please visit http://www.hsa.gov.sg/ for more information.
