Aptamers

Aptamers are short, single-stranded DNA and RNA molecules. Due to their secondary structure, they are able to bind target molecules with high specificity, sensitivity, and selectivity. This characteristic opens up a wide range of applications in analytical, diagnostic and therapeutic applications. Aptamers are obtained through the SELEX process (systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment).

  • Novel hepatitis C virus inhibitory molecules by in vitro evolution

An interdisciplinary CSIC team, formed by researchers from the Center for Astrobiology (CAB, CSIC-INTA), the Center for Molecular Biology Severo Ochoa (CBMSO, CSIC-UAM) and the National Center for Biotechnology (CNB, CSIC), has obtained short DNA and structured RNA molecules that inhibit hepatitis C more

  • Molecule attacks coronavirus in a novel way

Scientists at the University of Bonn and the caesar research center have isolated a molecule that might open new avenues in the fight against SARS coronavirus 2. The active ingredient binds to the spike protein that the virus uses to dock to the cells it infects. This prevents them from entering the more

  • New materials could 'drive wound healing' by harnessing natural healing methods

Materials are widely used to help heal wounds: Collagen sponges help treat burns and pressure sores, and scaffold-like implants are used to repair bones. However, the process of tissue repair changes over time, so scientists are developing biomaterials that interact with tissues as healing takes pla more
